The Faculty of Tourism and Hotels Hosts the Regional Manager of ETS for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in a Lecture on Language Skills and Student Empowerment
The Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University organized a specialized lecture titled: “Language Tests and Language Skills and Their Role in Empowering Students to Access Universities and the International Job Market.” The lecture was delivered by Mr. Omar Obeidat, Regional Manager of Educational Testing Service (ETS) for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, in the presence of a number of faculty and administrative staff members, as well as students of the faculty.
The lecture addressed the importance of internationally recognized language tests and language skills in enhancing students’ academic and professional opportunities, and their role in enabling students to enroll in international universities and integrate into the global labor market, which is witnessing increasing competitiveness and advanced communication and language requirements.
Mr. Obeidat also reviewed the most prominent internationally accredited language tests and discussed mechanisms for developing students’ language skills, emphasizing the importance of investing in language learning as a fundamental tool for academic and professional excellence, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors, which rely heavily on communication with diverse cultures and nationalities.
Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, Prof. Dr. Saad Al-Saad, pointed out that students’ acquisition of language skills opens broad horizons for training and employment opportunities in local and international tourism and hospitality companies, while also enhancing their readiness to meet the demands of the modern tourism labor market.
This lecture comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University to align its educational outcomes with labor market needs and to strengthen partnerships with international institutions and experts, thereby contributing to the development of students’ skills and enhancing their competitiveness both locally and globally.
