The Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women’s Studies, in cooperation with the We Rise Center for Sustainable Development and the College of Tourism and Hotels, organized a dialogue session entitled “Challenges and developmental needs of youth in Irbid Governorate in the tourism sector,” in the presence of the Director of the Center, Dr. Batoul Al-Muhaisen, the Dean of the College of Tourism and Hotels, Dr. Akram Rawashdeh, and the Director General. We Rise Center, Mr. Amer Abu Dalu.
At the beginning of the session, Al-Muhaisen welcomed the attendees to the Yarmouk University of Science and Knowledge, which has dedicated its knowledge and knowledge to national development, stressing that Yarmouk University, since its establishment, has been a beacon of cultural and scientific radiance, and its students and graduates are the model that we are always proud of.
She pointed out that choosing the tourism axis in today’s session was only an extension of the royal efforts to develop the tourism sector and provide it with all capabilities, stressing that “Yarmouk” and its College of Tourism and Hotels are the title of qualitative work in this field, especially since the college embraces competent scientific expertise in this field and does not They spare no effort in providing all efforts that contribute to the development and service of this important sector.
Al-Muhaisen said: Youth are the nation’s valuable asset for creating a bright future, stressing the importance of involving students in such awareness sessions and cooperating with various development institutions that organize effective initiatives and activities to identify challenges and problems and develop effective executive plans in order to confront any challenge and create one achievement that follows another.
In turn, Al-Rawashdeh stressed the importance of increasing and activating the involvement of women in working in the tourism sector, indicating that work in the tourism sector is not limited to one people or gender without another.
He stressed the necessity of empowering young people in various fields, and it is our duty to provide them with the knowledge and skills that enable them to carry out their developmental role in our beloved country, pointing to the interest that His Majesty King Abdullah II attaches to the tourism sector due to its importance, as it constitutes 14% of the gross domestic product.
Al-Rawashdeh stressed the importance of unifying efforts to highlight the city of Irbid on the Jordanian tourism map, given that it is a distinct tourist environment rich in tourist sites. It includes five cities from the Roman cities of the Decapolis, and includes approximately 500 villages, which encourages rural tourism there.
For his part, Abu Dalu said that organizing this session came within the vision of the We Rise Center for Sustainable Development based on partnership and cooperation with various governmental and official agencies, indicating that the We Rise Center for Sustainable Development is considered a civil society institution that was established in 2018 with the help of young people who love their country and society, and aims To enhance youth participation in political and economic life, and work to enhance their capabilities and enable them to draw a map for the future.
He appreciated the effective cooperation of Yarmouk University with civil society institutions in Irbid Governorate, and its keenness to support its students and provide them with the most important experiences and specializations, pointing out that today’s session comes within the activities of the Youth Council 21 project, which is an elected youth council in Irbid Governorate, which aims to emulate the work of elected councils and involve young people. in local policy making.
He added that the Youth Council 21 is working during this period to implement three initiatives: the “Youth and Municipalities” initiative, the “Guide to Needs” initiative, and the last initiative is the “Lifta” initiative, which aims to shed light on the tourism challenges in the Koura and Northern Jordan Valley districts, and this session was part of its activities. .
The session’s activities included a presentation on the “Lafta” initiative between the path that includes Tabaqat Fahal, Barqash, and Wadi Al-Rayyan, and the challenges facing tourism in these areas, including: the presence of disputed basins, the lack of tourist offices in them, the lack of basic services and infrastructure, and the lack of To the media coverage, in addition to reviewing the most prominent problems facing the local residents of these sites, and the desired results of the initiative.
At the conclusion of the session, an extensive discussion took place among the participants, moderated by the Deputy Director of the Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women’s Studies, Dr. Tariq Al-Nasser, which included asking a set of questions about the reality of the tourism sector in the Northern Jordan Valley and Koura Districts, the most important tourism opportunities and features in those areas, and the most important needs and challenges that face them. Facing tourism in it, and how interesting it is


The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Tourism Promotion Authority examined tourist sites in those areas, how to promote domestic tourism to those areas, and the role of youth in the process of developing tourism in their areas.
