“Student Affairs” Participates in a Workshop on Enhancing the Integration of Students with Disabilities and Support them Academically and Psychologically

Representing the Student Care Directorate at the Deanship of Student Affairs, Mr. Montaser Al-Rifa’i sponsored an introductory workshop organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, titled “Supporting and Integrating Students with Disabilities in the University Environment.” The workshop was held in collaboration with the Department for the Care of Students with Disabilities and the Counseling Department, and was attended by a number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students of the Faculty.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the concept of disability and to introduce the different types of disabilities (physical, sensory, and intellectual) while highlighting the most significant academic, psychological, and social challenges that students with disabilities may face in university life, as well as ways to address these challenges within a framework that ensures fairness and equal opportunities.

The workshop sessions addressed mechanisms for integrating students with disabilities into the university community and emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive university environment. Focus was placed on appropriate practices during lectures and examinations, and on providing necessary academic conditions that take individual differences into account, such as extending exam time, diversifying assessment methods, and adapting classrooms to meet students’ needs.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of social support by encouraging the participation of students with disabilities in the activities and events organized by the faculty, as well as identifying and supporting their individual talents, thereby enhancing their integration and active participation in university life.

On the psychological level, emphasis was placed on the importance of continuous psychological support, fostering self-concept and self-esteem among students, and the role of such support in increasing learning motivation and improving academic and social adjustment.
