Faculty of Tourism and Hotels Participates in the First National Tourism Conference: Sustainable Tourism – Challenges and Opportunities
The Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University participated in the First National Tourism Conference entitled “Sustainable Tourism in Jordan – Challenges and Opportunities”, held in the capital, Amman, on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The Jordan Policy Dialogue Forum under the patronage of His Excellency Senator Engineer Jamal Al-Saraira organized the event. The Faculty's participation came in response to a kind invitation from the Forum’s President, Professor Hamid Naif Al-Bataineh.
Professor Akram Rawashdeh, Dean of the Faculty; Professor Hakam Al-Shatnawi; Dr. Mohammad Abu Hujailah; and Ms. Munia Al-Afan represented the Faculty.
During the opening session of the conference, Dr. Rawashdeh delivered a speech in which he emphasized that His Majesty King Abdullah II has given great attention to the tourism sector, recognizing it as a key pillar of the national economy and a central element in enhancing Jordan’s image regionally and internationally.
He added that His Majesty has consistently directed successive governments through Royal Mandates to support and elevate the tourism sector, contributing to economic growth, job creation, and the preservation of Jordan’s rich national heritage.
Dr. Rawashdeh stressed that this ongoing royal guidance reflects the Hashemite leadership’s deep belief in the importance of tourism as a strategic sector—one that requires a clear vision and coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to further develop and enhance its competitiveness.
Additionally, Dr. Rawashdeh participated in one of the conference sessions with an intervention on tourism education and innovation.
