Panel Discussion at Yarmouk University Showcases Inspiring Success Stories of Women Entrepreneurs in the Tourism Sector
The Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University held a specialized panel discussion entitled “Women Entrepreneurs in the Jordanian Tourism Sector,” organized by the Department of Tourism and Travel. The event aimed to highlight inspiring real-life models that have reshaped entrepreneurial thinking in Jordan’s tourism industry while strengthening the connection between academic knowledge and practical field experience.
Dean of the Faculty, Professor Saad Al-Saad, who patronized the event on behalf of Yarmouk University President, Professor Malek Al-Sharairi, emphasized that the integration of women into tourism activities is both a developmental and a civilizational necessity. He noted that the Faculty seeks to transform students into proactive and entrepreneurial individuals equipped with leadership skills and digital technologies to meet the demands of the global labor market.
Moderated by Dr. Sawsan Khreis, Head of the Department, the session featured the professional journeys of three Jordanian women entrepreneurs. Ms. Layali Nashashibi spoke about her experience in transforming corporate social responsibility initiatives into strategies for sustainability and women’s empowerment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Maisa Shahateet presented a model of agile entrepreneurship through the development of innovative tourism products that combine cultural authenticity with contemporary market demands. Meanwhile, Ms. Balqees Al-Momani, a graduate of the Faculty and owner of Olivia Travel and Tourism Agency, shared her entrepreneurial journey, stressing that success in the tourism industry requires mastery of digital tools to build a thriving professional future.
The speakers delivered inspiring messages to the Faculty’s female students, encouraging them not to wait for opportunities but to create them, and to possess the courage to challenge traditional stereotypes. The event also underscored the importance of bridging the gap between classroom learning and the workplace so that graduates become agents of change equipped with both scientific knowledge and an entrepreneurial spirit.
The discussion concluded with an open dialogue between the students and the guest speakers, allowing for the exchange of ideas and motivational insights that reflect the University’s vision of fostering creativity, innovation, and excellence.
