Yarmouk University Participates in the MARE International Project Activities at the University of Palermo, Italy
Professor Akram Rawashdeh from the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University participated in the activities of the MARE (Mediterranean Alliance for Research and Education) project, hosted by the University of Palermo, Italy, from 18 to 22 May 2026, with the participation of several universities and academic institutions from across the Mediterranean region.
The MARE project is one of the international academic initiatives funded under the European Union’s Transnational Education programs. It aims to strengthen academic and research cooperation between Italian universities and universities in the Southern Mediterranean, while supporting scientific exchange, training, and capacity building in the fields of sustainable development and higher education.
During the event, Professor Rawashdeh took part in scientific sessions and specialized discussions within the theme of sustainable tourism. His contributions highlighted the importance of tourism education in promoting sustainability and strengthening international academic partnerships. He also emphasized the role of social capital in building meaningful and long-term cooperation among higher education institutions across the Mediterranean region.
Furthermore, Professor Rawashdeh presented the efforts of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University in developing academic programs related to sustainable tourism and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to keeping pace with global trends in tourism education while aligning them with community needs and labor market demands.
Professor Rawashdeh noted that participation in this international project enhances Yarmouk University’s international presence and creates new opportunities for academic cooperation and scientific exchange with European and Mediterranean universities, particularly in the fields of sustainable tourism, scientific research, and academic training.
The MARE project brings together a broad network of Mediterranean universities and seeks to advance education, research, and academic mobility in several areas, including sustainable tourism, development, climate change, and sustainable mobility.
