Graduate Students at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, Yarmouk University, Present Their Theses in the “Five-Minute Thesis” Competition

 

As part of its commitment to promoting scientific research and enhancing academic communication skills, the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University, in collaboration with the Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, organized the “Five-Minute Thesis” competition for master's theses. The event featured outstanding and innovative presentations by graduate students, and was attended by Prof. Wissal Al-Omari, Dean of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, and Prof. Dima Daradkeh, Associate Dean.

The competition aimed to develop students’ scientific communication skills by challenging participants to present their complex academic research in a simplified and concise manner within just five minutes. Presentations were expected to use clear and engaging language suitable for a non-specialist audience.

Prof. Wissal Al-Omari emphasized the importance of this competition in fostering a culture of scientific research and making academic concepts more accessible to the public. She noted that such initiatives play a vital role in improving students' presentation and communication skills. Prof. Dima Daradkeh praised the students’ efforts and the quality of their presentations, stressing the role of research in advancing the tourism and hospitality sector.

Prof. Akram Rawashdeh, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, expressed pride in the high level demonstrated by the students, adding that the event reflects the faculty’s dedication to supporting research and innovation. He highlighted the faculty’s mission to prepare students to become leaders in the tourism industry, both locally and globally, and emphasized the value of such initiatives in positioning the university as a hub for academic and research excellence.

The presentations were evaluated by a specialized jury panel comprising Dr. Salem Al-Harahsheh, Dr. Fakhriya Al-Darabseh, and Dr. Mohammad Abu Hujailah. The evaluation focused on clarity of ideas, presentation strength, and the participants' ability to effectively communicate their research messages.
